Future of Air Freight Industry in India
The air freight industry in India is poised for significant growth, with aims to reach 10 million metric tonnes by 2030. This goal is supported by various factors such as the flourishing e-commerce market, the country’s stance as a leading pharmaceutical and vaccine manufacturer, and the “Make in India” initiative.
To accommodate the projected surge in cargo volume, the Indian government is actively expanding airport infrastructure. Projects such as the Noida International Airport and the Navi Mumbai International Airport are set to revolutionize cargo handling capabilities. Furthermore, upcoming regional airports in Sindhudurg and Kushinagar aim to address specific needs, thereby enhancing India’s air cargo capacity and efficiency.
The air cargo sector has a bright future, with the number of freighters in the country expected to rise. Currently, Indian carriers have around 18 freighters. The government is working on developing logistics hubs, and there will be a focus on further improving the ease of doing business and faster turnaround time in the air cargo sector.
